Singing For Wellness (Torbay)

A choir for people with respiratory conditions, including COPD and long-Covid.

Singing for wellness is a group offering a friendly space to make friends and sing together. We do breathing exercises, voice releasing, sing great songs, as well as chat, drink tea, and eat cake!

The warm up exercises are key to this group, and as one member recently described, ‘it makes my physio fun!’. We sing a range of folk and popular songs that people can have fun reminiscing about as well as enjoying singing. There are no auditions and no previous singing or musical experience is needed.

Singing For Wellness regularly performs as part of Wren Torbay seasonal concerts, and they have flash-mobbed at Torbay Hospital. They sang at the glorious Spanish Barn Torre Abbey at the Transform Ageing festival. In 2019 they visited Gloucester at the invitation of partner project to take part in an afternoon’s singing and eating picnic tea. Choir members are invited to perform with the group at their earliest opportunity, but there is never any obligation to take part in public events.

Featured in no less than five video presentations, including a main feature on BBC Spotlight, the limelight has not changed the friendly, welcoming, down-to-earth nature of the group.
