Wren Music volunteers are an integral part of our community. Volunteering with us offers new experiences, allows you to meet people and contribute positively to the lives of others.
Volunteers receive initial training, as well as clear instructions from a member of staff at Wren Music.
Our volunteer needs vary throughout the year, and you can contact us at any time to register your interest.
Our music volunteers are trained to assist with our music groups. These are usually in closed settings like schools and care homes. To be a music volunteer you need to be a confident singer or player. You will help participants to follow the instructions of the Wren musician who leads the group. You will have a role in providing pastoral support to participants, often young people. Music volunteers will undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS) and will need to attend safeguarding training.
Our events volunteers help our more public events to run smoothly. There are two types of events volunteers role: box office and stewarding. Box office volunteers need to be friendly, welcoming, and will be comfortable taking payments and selling tickets. Stewarding volunteers will need to be comfortable lifting equipment like chairs and tables, as well as cleaning after an event.
Our technical volunteers help with the set up and running of our larger events. The duties include setting up lighting and sound rigs, and helping with live streaming of events. Technical volunteers should be confident with sound equipment and/or computers and technology. Training will be given on using specific equipment.
Our media volunteers help us get the word out about our projects and events, before during and after they happen. This includes taking photos, posting on social media and supporting live streaming. Media volunteers should be confident using social media on a mobile and computer. Specific training and guidelines will be provided on posting as Wren Music, but you should be a confident user of Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
Our catering volunteers ensure our events go with a swing. Known as Ale&Cake, this group of volunteers provide hospitality and refreshments for audience members, artists and participants alike. All the profits from the sales come straight back into Wren Music. Duties include serving customers, preparing food, washing up and taking payments – although you don’t have to do all of those things (so it’s fine if you just want to cook). You will be asked to complete a Food Safety Certificate, and will be provided with training on how the kitchen systems work.
