Join us for Bluebell Sunday!
On Sunday 17 May, singers from our four adult choirs will be performing at the annual Bluebell Sunday at Okehampton Castle. It’s a day of family fun (see poster image for what’s happening on the day), and our big Wren choir, bringing together the West Devon, North Devon, Exeter and Torbay choirs, will be singing their set from around 1.30pm.
For this event, we’re delighted to be linking with English Heritage, the charity which manages Okehampton Castle. Paul Wilson, our co-founder, said: “Bluebell Sunday is a wonderful event, it brings the whole town and surrounding places together. And the Castle – an ancient monument set in the countryside – offers a stunning setting for our choirs to sing.
“People coming along on the day can expect a big warm sound with some instrumental accompaniments. Songs will be traditional and newly written folk pieces – songs about trees, visiting Maytime customs, celebrating summer and of course the green man of the forest.”
Conducting the choir on the day will be our new Wren Music singing leader, Laura Marshall: “It’s going to be a lot of fun! Paul and I met in bright sunshine for a site visit to Castle to plan the event, and I absolutely loved the amazing castle remains and the beautiful woodland surroundings.”
Bluebell Sunday is from 10am to 3pm, admission free. Car parking is limited, and it’s recommended that you park in town and walk up to the castle. Practical guidance for visitors is on the English Heritage website: www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/okehampton-castle/
