Tom Pearse’s Legacy

1995

This project linked multiple West Devon schools with a village community.  Finch Foundry is the site of a former wool mill owned by Tom Pearse, who is most famous for being part of the popular folk song Widecombe Fair. The schools explored aspects of Dartmoor’s industrial history, writing a song each and performing to each other, whilst the village explored the relationship between the village and the folk song. The song  ‘The Waterwheel’ was written for this project and has since been introduced to choirs in mainland Europe as part of another project.
