To celebrate International Women’s Day 2024, we are taking part in a special day of events at Exeter Phoenix on Saturday 9 March.
Our project Her Story 2024 brings together a specially formed choir of women to rehearse and perform five songs from previous Her Story performances, which relate to the Exeter area.
Rehearsals take place at Exeter Phoenix on four Sunday afternoons at 2pm-5pm, on 4, 11 and 25 February and 3 March, and are led by Wren Music professional singer Sarah Owen and creative director Marilyn Tucker.
Marilyn said: “For Her Story 2024, we’ve chosen songs from our back catalogue and some relate to Exeter directly, from the 16th century to the middle of the 20th Century.”
On the day, the Her Story team will also be running a workshop led by Sarah for anyone at the event to join if they wish. They’ll learn two songs which will be sung at the performance later in the afternoon.
Sarah said: “We’re very much looking forward to the workshop and introducing new people to the songs from Her Story.”
We’ll be in the Phoenix Auditorium from 2.45pm until 4.15pm on 9 March:
- 2.45pm workshop for all attendees at the event
- 3.45pm Her Story choir performance
- 4.10pm re-sing the songs from the workshop
