A Song For Us

Wren Music was part of this project which marked the first anniversary of the first UK national lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. A Song For Us aimed to create a music map of the country to mark this challenging time.

Folk singer Seth Lakeman was commissioned to write a song for Devon. Wren Music was asked to provide a choral accompaniment to the song. Written and arranged by Wren Music’s Paul Wilson and Sarah Owen, the choral accompaniment featured singers from Wren’s own community choirs and Barnstaple community choir.

The song ‘How We Remember’ celebrates the community spirit of the people of Devon and the beauty of the county. The Wren Music team taught the singers with online videos and rehearsals over Zoom, with Seth Lakeman joining us.  Each singer filmed themselves in their own home and the videos and audios were collaged together.

The song premiered on March 23 2021, with features on BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio Devon, BBC News, Sky News. There are plans for a public performance of the song in person with Seth Lakeman later in 2021 when restrictions allow.
