Story of Sidmouth Performance at the 70th Sidmouth Folk Festival

Sunday 4 August @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Join us on Sunday, August 4th, from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm at the Ham Concert Marquee for a special performance celebrating the 70th anniversary of Sidmouth Folk Festival. The ‘Story of Sidmouth’ project, funded by Arts Council England, brings the town’s rich history to life through new folk songs created from residents’ cherished memories.

A festival artist will perform alongside community groups at this event, showcasing newly written songs. These songs, based on stories shared by local residents during memory swap events held in the spring, have been diligently crafted into traditional-style pieces by music students from Sidmouth College and fine-tuned by our professional musicians. This event will be a highlight of the festival, capturing the essence of Sidmouth’s past and present in a unique and engaging way.

Artistic Director Tash Daly expresses excitement about this collaboration: “We are thrilled to be working alongside Wren Music to bring the stories of Sidmouthians of all ages to life. Folk music serves as a mirror to the lives of everyday people, and this project beautifully encapsulates that tradition.”

Don’t miss this heartwarming celebration of local heritage and culture. It’s a unique opportunity to experience the collective memories of Sidmouth through music and storytelling.

We look forward to seeing you there!
