Midsummer – for families

Saturday 24 June 2023 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Okehampton Community Gardens, Fatherford Rd, Okehampton, EX20 1QS

Join us for a free a afternoon celebrating European traditions of midsummer.

On arrival you’ll have the chance to make a flower garland to wear on your head, and explore the community garden to make a special smelly potion with the things you can find.

Then we’ll enjoy watching some morris dancing, then taking part in some traditional midsummer dances from Sweden (they are really easy and we’ll show you what to do).

After all that dancing around it’s time for a bit of sit down listening time, and we’ll enjoy a song from Marilyn, a story from Katy and then a song from Rebecka.

After a bit more dancing, we’ll all go on a ‘Wren hunt’. We’ll sing the well known song about this activity (usually it’s a bear!) and we’ll explore the garden to find the hidden wooden Wren.

At 4.30pm we’ll say farewell with a special present for you to take home, and give you good wishes for a bright year.

A barbecue is available from 4.30pm, at a cost of £5 per person (cash).
