A very special music event is taking place soon in East Devon. Deep in the heart of Beer Caves, a choir from Wren Music will be presenting a programme of old and new folk songs with many songs linked to the life of miners and the Caves.

The performers are MenSing, an all-male singing group which is run by Paul Wilson. As part of their set they’re bringing a newly composed song about the Caves – Transporting The Stone – a new song sung by the men who wrote it about the men who used to work there. It was written following a hugely successful first performance by the group in the Caves before lockdown.

Paul said “We were completely bowled over by the sound the voices made in the Caves on our first visit and we can’t wait to try out our new song, Transporting The Stone which is written all about the Caves, in the Caves themselves!”

Caves manager Steve Rodgers said “We are really looking forward to having the choir visit. The new song is brilliant: it’s like a complete Caves Tour in music”.

It is a walking tour of the Caves with folk songs, with the singing happening at different locations underground :a promenade performance with an underground twist. A professional caves guide will lead the tour to keep everyone safe and there will be some chances join a song or two – to experience the amazing acoustics underground.

The barbecue and bar will be open from 5pm, while the Singing Tour will last around one hour between 7pm and 8pm. There will then be a further opportunity to get a post-show burger and drink until 9pm.

Sturdy footwear and warm clothes are highly recommended.

To book tickets please phone 01297 680282 – adults £10, concessions £8, under 5s FREE. Please bring cash to pay on the day – there will also be a card payment option on site.
