The William Andrews Tunebook – A Dartmoor Fiddler
About this item
The tunes in this book are taken from the collection made by the Rev. Sabine Baring-Gould working in Devon and Cornwall in the last decade of the 19th century.
Together with Martin Graebe, Wren Trust has established the Baring-Gould Heritage Project with the aim of returning the 650 songs and tunes he collected to the public domain.
This has been made possible through the help of Devon Libraries and The Baring-Gould Corporation.
Microfiche copies of the entire collection, together with popular literature and broadside ballads, may be consulted at libraries in Devon and Cornwall and this book is part of a continuing series of publications that aim to bring aspects of the collection to a wider audience.
The William Andrews tune-book is edited to provide a good, playable set of tunes while faithfully recording any changes made from the manuscript – this is done beside each tune. Players can therefore make up their own minds as to whether they prefer the version given here or wish to follow the manuscript more closely.
At the back of the book, there are precise microfiche references, together with other notes from elsewhere in the Baring-Gould collection and further information about the tunes.
