SUMMARY:West Devon Folk Choir
DESCRIPTION:West Devon Folk Choir has brought together people of all ages and abilities since 2009 to learn and perform traditional and newly composed folk songs. \nWest Devon Folk Choir performs in many local venues. They have provided the backbone of choirs for local winter events singing carols in churches and wassailing orchards. A great relationship has developed over the years with Devonport Community Choir. The choir have had a few exchange visits where the standard and quantity of the cream teas threatened to eclipse the singing! In 2017 some members travelled to Craon\, France\, to sing at a special twinning celebration. The choir have travelled across Dartmoor to sing special concerts at Buckland In The Moor and Morwellham Quay as well as outdoor singing on Bluebell Sunday at Okehampton Castle.

DESCRIPTION:Catering for both new and experienced singers\, the North Devon Folk Choir have been learning and performing folk songs together since 2012.\nNorth Devon Folk Choir has performed at a huge variety of local venues in Barnstaple and other North Devon towns. The choir toured with the show ‘Trade Roots’\, exploring North Devon’s links with the rest of the world. Many singers joined the Landkey Carols project. Unusual spaces have always been popular with the group\, busking on Apple Day in the South Molton pannier market\, or singing a local traditional Harvest Song in a stubble field!

DESCRIPTION:Our brilliant MenSing choir are going underground at Beer Quarry Caves again on Sunday\, 26 October – and we’d love to see you there!\n\n\nIt promises to be a wonderful event\, the latest in a busy year for our all-male singing group\, which is led by Paul Wilson. As well as performing at Buckland Abbey and Sidmouth Folk Festival this summer\, they were filmed at Beer Quarry Caves and broadcast on Channel 5’s Coastal Adventures TV programme\, singing their newly composed song about the caves – Transporting the Stone. The song is all about the lives of the men who worked in the caves\, sung in the caves by the men who wrote it. Caves manager Steve Rodgers fronted the item on Channel 5 and said: “We’re really looking forward to having the choir visit again. The new song is brilliant: it’s like a complete caves tour in music.”\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo book tickets\, phone Beer Quarry Caves on 01297 680282 – adults £12\, concessions £10\, under 5s free. DESCRIPTION:Together Jim and Marilyn & Paul have been exploring relationship between Devon folk songs and those found across the Atlantic Ocean\, most notably in Newfoundland\, since they first met in 1983\, and they have revisited this theme regularly. The concert has toured to Derby\, Hartlepool and Union Chapel London. As well as extensively across Devon\, most recently as part of the Devon Newfoundland Story in 2017.
