The seeds for the band were sown in the 1990s when Balfa Toujours\, the next generation of Louisiana’s famous Balfa family\, toured England for the first time and met the Flatville Aces\, who were at the forefront of the Cajun music explosion in the UK. Jock Tyldesley and Dirk Powell became lifelong friends in this era\, sharing stages across the globe. As the music led them down life’s most important paths\, Jock met Vera van Heeringen\, former member of the Cajun Company\, Holland’s premier Cajun group. Soon\, these two families\, though residing an ocean apart\, raised another generation of soulful musicians. Amelia Powell grew up on the bayou\, immersed in Louisiana tradition\, and Lucas Tyldesley grew up surrounded by Europe’s greatest Cajun players. Today\, this five-piece band brings the classic Louisiana sound – accordion\, fiddle\, guitar\, bass\, and drums – to audiences with an infectious warmth and familial joy. There are a few Appalachian and Country flavors thrown in but\, for the most part\, Deux Familles celebrates the connection between these two families with the rhythmic and passionate music that has shaped their lives. SUMMARY:West Devon Folk Choir
DESCRIPTION:West Devon Folk Choir has brought together people of all ages and abilities since 2009 to learn and perform traditional and newly composed folk songs. \nWest Devon Folk Choir performs in many local venues. They have provided the backbone of choirs for local winter events singing carols in churches and wassailing orchards. A great relationship has developed over the years with Devonport Community Choir. The choir have had a few exchange visits where the standard and quantity of the cream teas threatened to eclipse the singing! In 2017 some members travelled to Craon\, France\, to sing at a special twinning celebration. The choir have travelled across Dartmoor to sing special concerts at Buckland In The Moor and Morwellham Quay as well as outdoor singing on Bluebell Sunday at Okehampton Castle.

DESCRIPTION:Catering for both new and experienced singers\, the North Devon Folk Choir have been learning and performing folk songs together since 2012.\nNorth Devon Folk Choir has performed at a huge variety of local venues in Barnstaple and other North Devon towns. The choir toured with the show ‘Trade Roots’\, exploring North Devon’s links with the rest of the world. Many singers joined the Landkey Carols project. Unusual spaces have always been popular with the group\, busking on Apple Day in the South Molton pannier market\, or singing a local traditional Harvest Song in a stubble field!
