West Devon Folk Choir

West Devon Folk Choir has brought together people of all ages and abilities since 2009 to learn and perform traditional and newly composed folk songs.

West Devon Folk Choir performs in many local venues. They have provided the backbone of choirs for local winter events singing carols in churches and wassailing orchards. A great relationship has developed over the years with Devonport Community Choir. The choir have had a few exchange visits where the standard and quantity of the cream teas threatened to eclipse the singing! In 2017 some members travelled to Craon, France, to sing at a special twinning celebration. The choir have travelled across Dartmoor to sing special concerts at Buckland In The Moor and Morwellham Quay as well as outdoor singing on Bluebell Sunday at Okehampton Castle.

Each session starts with preparation for the body, breath and voice. You’ll learn to control your breath, extend your vocal range and develop your singing technique. You’ll learn short songs as well as exciting harmonic arrangements which we develop week on week. You’ll learn songs by ear but lyric sheets and musical scores are available. We have a short break during the session where you can have a cup of tea and chat with fellow members. Choir members are invited to perform with the group at their earliest opportunity, but there is never any obligation to take part in public events.
