The choir meets at the Acorn Centre Lummaton Cross, Torquay at 4 - 5.30pm on Mondays during term time. The first meeting of the Spring Term 2018 was Monday 15th January. The choir is funded by the Torbay Music Hub, so is FREE to attend.
Taking its name from the Centre, The Acorn Choir write their own songs about all sorts - superheroes, travelling around the world, or working at the local quarry. The choir also sing songs from the old English folk tradition as well as having fun learning new pieces from all over the world.
The singers say, “This choir is brilliant - spectacular - encouraging - tuneful - harmonious - literally breathtaking!”
Choir leader Emily Howard says “I think that the energy in this group is infectious and I look forward to Monday nights - we have so much fun”
Wren Music leader Paul Wilson helps with the group and adds “the concentration and commitment of the young singers is impressive - they manage to conquer their nerves and totally shine in performances.”
The Acorn choir had two exciting performances in 2017. The first big performance was at the Torbay Schools Festival, at the Riviera Centre on March 27th. The second was at the Princess Theatre, for Wren’s Sing Around the Bay finale, in June - see some quotes from this here.
Emily heads up the team which also includes volunteer Louise Sessions who sings with the Torbay Folk Choir, as well as young music leader Aimee Morgan. Louise often makes lovely biscuits for rehearsal break time!
So come along and join us on a Monday evening 4pm - 5.30pm at the Acorn Centre, Lummaton Cross, Barton, Torquay, TQ2 8ET. Lots of fun!
