Youth Roots Bands
Wren Music is delighted to announce the launch of a new music-making project for young people in the South Molton, Torrington and Okehampton Learning Communities. The Devon Roots project will run over the next eighteen months and has been made possible by support from Youth Music, Arts Council England South West and Devon County Council, following the success of a pilot developed by Wren Music as part of the Mix4Six Music Partnership with Devon Education Services and Devon Music Service.
The project commences in Summer Term 2010 with the establishment of three weekly, after-school music workshop groups for eight to thirteen year olds, to play acoustic music from Devon, from England and from around the world, under the guidance of professional musicians from Wren Music.
Our aim is to make the project as widely accessible as possible. There will be no auditions, no requirement for past musical experience and no obligation to read music. Furthermore, Wren Music will provide a wide selection of acoustic instruments - although participants are welcome to bring their own if they have them.
Participants will have fun and make new friends outside of their own schools through music. There will also be some holiday music activities and opportunities for performances as the project develops.
This part of the project will comprise:
Dartmoor Youth Roots Band Mondays, 6.00 - 7.30pm Church House, South Tawton, Okehampton EX20 2LQ 19th and 26th April, 10th, 17th and 24th May, 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th June, 5th July
