Torbay Folk Choir

Torbay Folk Choir has been singing since 2007. The group was started by Matt Norman for Wren Music who established a warm and friendly group. Over the years leaders have added to the group’s repertoire and skills. The choir invites people from the Torbay area to learn folk songs from Devon, across the UK and beyond.

Torbay Folk Choir has taken part in many local events including taking the stage at the Dartmouth Music Festival. They were part of the Stoke Gabriel Wassail and featured on BBCTV and performed at the glorious and prestigious Torre Abbey in the Spanish Barn. The choir collaborates with the Singing For Wellness choir with whom they have flash-mobbed Torbay Hospital more than once!

Each session starts with preparation for the body, breath and voice. You’ll learn to control your breath, extend your vocal range and develop your singing technique. You’ll learn short songs as well as exciting harmonic arrangements which we develop week on week. You’ll learn songs by ear but lyric sheets and musical scores are available. We have a short break during the session where you can have a cup of tea and chat with fellow members. Choir members are invited to perform with the group at their earliest opportunity, but there is never any obligation to take part in public events.
