Wren Music with the Musicians’ Union

Now available in the UK, the Trinity Level 4 Certificate for Music Educators (Trinity CME) is designed for music educators who work with children and young people. It is supported by a flexible programme of learning, validated by Trinity College, London and supported by Devon, Plymouth and Torbay South West Music Education Hubs.

Wren Music has been endorsed as a centre for the South West by Trinity (CME Centre number 0000009) and a first intake of students was enrolled in September 2016, with the aim of growing student numbers subsequently. We are designing a course to meet the Trinity requirements and also to give students the benefit of Wren Music’s long experience in the music education sector.

About CME

CME is a new qualification for all music educators that Wren Music is piloting in Devon, in partnership with the Devon Music Education Hub (DMEH).

The Certificate for Music Educators (CME) has been developed by representatives across the music education sector in response to the publication of the National Plan for Music Education (2011) which recommended the introduction of a qualification for music teachers.

The qualification is accredited by Trinity College which approved Wren as a certified provider of the training. And Paul Wilson, Wren’s Music Director has been closely involved in the process from the outset – from sitting on the original Working Party for the National Plan, to writing the folk elements of the course.

Who is it for?

CME is for all musicians, from those new to the workforce to highly experienced practitioners, who are involved in musical learning activities for children and young people. It is designed to develop new skills and consolidate understanding of the purpose of music education as well as promoting best practice and contributing to an educators' knowledge and skills in their work.

The CME qualification is realistically achievable by musicians working in many genres, communities and traditions, regardless of their academic history, and will go a long way to providing an initial benchmark qualification in the constantly changing and evolving world of music education.
